Geographical Location

Taicang is located in the southeastern part of East China's Jiangsu province, south bank of the Yangtze River estuary, 31°20'~31°45'north latitude and 120°58'~121°20'east longitude. The city is located to the east of the Yangtze River, facing Chongming Island across the river. It borders Baoshan District and Jia ding District of Shanghai to the south, Kunshan on the west and Changshu on the north.

Taicang sits in the alluvial plain of the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) , featuring flat terrain, with a slight incline from northeast to southwest. The humid climate of the south of the northern subtropical region heavily influences Taicang weather that features four distinctive seasons and a moderate climate.

As the nearest port to the estuary of the Yangtze River, Taicang Port boasts a 38.8-kilometer shoreline, including a 25-kilometer deep-water section. The port line is roughly straight with a stable shoal. It is ice-free and never silts up throughout the year. The deep-water area, spacious and stable, has a fariway depth of 12.5 meters to accommodate 200, 000-ton ships. Therefore, it is dubbed a “golden port” on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
